GRAND RAPIDS, MI – There was applause and cheers Monday, Nov. 4 at the Grand Rapids Board of Education meeting after members unanimously approved backing legislation that would grant driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
‘’The Grand Rapids Board of Education supports undocumented immigrants being able to lawfully obtain driver’s licenses and urge lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow immigrants to more easily integrate into their communities and benefit all Michiganders,’’ according to the legislative policy position.
In October, the Grand Rapids City Commission penned a letter with similar language in support of the licenses.
